..as Mahoney explained, the "cathedra" is the symbolic chair which is reserved solely for the archbishop...mahoney sat in it for the last time today..as he is retiring (mandatory due to age) ..and the cathedral welcomes Gomez as the new archbishop..gomez was born in Mexico & served his first church in Texas...Mahoney is a L.A. native..and plans to stay around God bless him..
