article by rod beecham in christian science monitor (vol 103, issue 17, march 21, 2011) is right on the money..talks about the fact we have SO MANY "METAWORKERS" NOW..(I.e. those who analyze work & work result & miscellaneous production activity)..beecham says "too much human effort is directed toward the analysis of work, & the metaworkers tend to be paid more--often enormously more--than the people who actually work" (or are hands-on in production)...amen ! even in the public school districts like LAUSD you have those who work as "metaworkers" in a downtown skyrise while the teachers & students are scattered around los angeles, some in old buildings, tough neighborhoods, others in a few of the newer buildings..but those in the skyrise (the metaworkers) in general either MAKE MUCH MORE than the teachers & even some of the school administrators (who to a certain extent are also "metaworkers", & not so much in the classroom with the "product), OR if they are not making that much more $ (I.e clerical workers, receptionists, etc) some of them have come to think of themselves as superiorto the actual workers (teachers) and product (students) by virtue of being in a skyrise (like putting somebody in a rolls royce regardless of achievements, abilities, skills, talents, etc..makes them feel pretty good about themselves...and after a while they start to believe they are actually better than others)...needless to say, this is demoralizing to the REAL WORKERS trying to create a good "product" (all the responsibility is DUMPED on the teacher in the classroom while the "meta workers" sit back like armchair quarterbacks yelling at the TV)...in the LAUSD to move into administration or a decision-making position in the skyrise you're supposed to have first served a certain amount of time in the classroom..but too often those who take this option do the BARE MINIMUM of classroom years before running to the skyrise job, or office job in the school..WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU ? These are "escapist" personalities..and even as metaworkers they are still NOT dedicated to the final product or helping the workers. (like politicians, they will spout rhetoric and point fingers, & play the blame game, but too often, if not always, they TRULY DO NOT CARE at all..the end result of which being that it is demoralizing to the actual workers (teachers) and product (student). its like the old-school husband who is at work all daycoming home and blaming "mom (his wife) on everything that's happening with the kids, yet he never takes time to help the kids with the homework or even take johnny out to play baseball or teach sally how to ride a bike..the metaworkers are absent from the classroom, and don't care at all to ever get personally involved
