4/13/11 REMEMBER THAT JESUS WAS A JEW, AS WAS MOTHER MARY (& JOSEPH)

[exactly what I used to tell some of the students I taught in the public schools who expressed anti-semitic attitudes, some who even thought I was Jewish; the problem being there are fake Jews, or "secular jews" who do take advantage of people & also some, incl. some practicing jews, to this day, who have a sense of superiority; hence historically, yes, we have a fraternal relationship with the Jewish people & their story, but in day-to-day life sometimes we may have had a bad experience with a "fake Jew" or "secular Jew" or even a practicing Jew who has shown contempt for us as a non-Jew...we just can't hang on to that as a generalization of all Jewish people..many of whom are sincere in their faith but have not yet come to Jesus..which we believe will happen some day...I remember a jewish person giving me free dodger tickets one time..sometimes even a few jews have mistaken me for being a "good jewish boy" and are disappointed when I tell them "I'm a good Christian boy" (actually, a sinner redeemed by Christ, not perfect by any means)] DO 4/13/11 cblog, REMEMBER THAT JESUS WAS A JEW, AS WAS HIS MOTHER MARY; incarn, fr eugene "last couple weeks, been reading fr john's gospel, compiled 180 ad..it is profound..which is why...comes now near holy week..see how pointed it is..brings out divinity of christ..jesus is in command..intrsting to note that jews end up in slavery..slaves to egyptians for over 400 years..god calls them from freedom..symbolic..to the promised land..and moses has them celeb passover..lamb. blood of lamb..fast forward, promised land of canaan..1200 years clbrate passover..jews..israelites..biggest feast..very symbolic..at passover meal..remember wonderful things thru blood of the lamb..last passover meal..Jesus' last meal..new & everlasting covenant..end of old covenant ..new covt..blood of Jesus..we memorialize it every time go to mass..saved thru blood of lamb...vision broader, higher, ..more than physical piece of prop..look forward to eternal jrslm in next life..imp to know who we are..apprec eternal lamb..children of kingdom..ties together..step back.broad view..amazes me.some catholics..deep prejudice against jews..I say..don't u know Jesus was a Jew, mary a jew..got our faith fr. Gen 17:3-9 "When Abram prostrated himself, God spoke to him:“My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations I will render you exceedingly fertile; I will make nations of you; kings shall stem from you. I will maintain my covenant with you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting pact to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land in which you are now staying, the whole land of Canaan, as a permanent  possession and I will be their God.” God also said to Abraham:“On your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.”
